Canon L2 Instructions

The Canon G L2, often referred to as the "L2," is a digital camcorder released by Canon in 2002 and was designed for family and amateur film making. The Canon GL2 uses the mini-DV format, which records digital video information to small cassette tapes. You also can insert a removable memory card into the device to save individual frames as still photos. The Canon L2 was designed to be a user-friendly entry into the world of digital camcorders, and it should only take a few minutes to learn use it.


Instructions


1. Turn on the L2 by pressing the "Power" switch located on the top of the device above the control panel and external viewfinder.


2. Remove the lens cap from the camera lens by pressing the button indents on either side of the lens cap.


3. Adjust the telescoping viewfinder by manipulating it with your fingers. You can pull the viewfinder out to increase its length. You also can change its orientation by tilting it higher or lower.


4. Insert a mini-DV tape into the tape dock by pressing the "OPEN/EJECT" slider on the right side of the device. Place the DV tape into the dock with the label side facing away from the camera. Push the cassette in to lock it in place. Push the dock back into the body of the camera to secure it.


5. Use the "Mode Select" switch to change between camera and playback modes. Switch the L2 into "Camera" mode to use it as a camcorder. Switch it to the "Playback" mode to watch recorded footage from the inserted mini-DV tape.


6. Switch the camera into "Camera" mode and press the red "REC" button on the top of the device to begin recording. It will continue to record until you press the "REC" button a second time to stop it.


7. Press the "Focus A/M" button on the top of the device to change between manual and automatic focus. Use the focus ring directly behind the camera lens to manually control the focus. Twist the ring in either direction to widen or narrow the center of focus.


8. Use the buttons on the external viewfinder to navigate through your recorded footage. The viewfinder has a row of buttons along the bottom of the screen that allow you to fast-forward, rewind, stop and play footage recorded on the mini-DV tape.
