Download Pictures Directly To A Portable Storage Device

Download all your pictures to a portable storage device.

Moving pictures from a digital camera or other digital device to the computer and then uploading them to a portable storage device can be time consuming if you're transferring a lot of photos. Windows does allow you to select settings that will download pictures from one device directly to another device, bypassing the need to download and save any image files to the computer's hard drive.

Instructions

1. Connect the portable storage device. Flash drives can be inserted directly into the USB drive. Many external hard drives are connected to the USB drive using a USB cable.

2. Connect the device that holds the pictures to the computer. Most devices such as a digital camera or portable media player can connect directly to the computer's USB port by using a USB cable. Typically, the smaller end of the USB cable will be inserted into the device and the larger end of the cable will be inserted into the computer's USB port.

3. Click on "Import Pictures and Videos using Windows" in the AutoPlay window. Windows will begin to scan the connected device for pictures.

4. Click on the "Import Settings" option on the Import Pictures and Videos window.

5. Select the "Browse" button next to "Import Pictures to."

6. Click on "Computer" to expand the connected drives in the Browser window. Select the drive that represents the external hard drive. Press "OK." Press the "OK" button again in the Import Settings window.

7. Select "Import" and Windows will download all photos on the device to the external storage drive.
