Make A Tv Antenna With A Tin Can

If you need to make an old television antenna, but you don't have many supplies to work with, never fret. You can make a TV antenna out of almost anything that is metal and conductive. A tin can for example, can be made into a TV antenna with just a couple of items. If this is something that you are interested in, this article will outline the steps that you need to take to make a tin can into a TV antenna.

Instructions

1. Remove the label from the tin can and clean it up. You will want to get all of the paper and food particles off of the tin can.

2. Strip both ends of the speaker wire so that you have about a quarter inch of bare wire. You will need one side stripped to attach it to the tin can. The other side of the wire will attach to the back of the TV.

3. Attach one of the exposed ends of the speaker wire to the bare metal of the tin can. Duct tape works well for this. Attaching the exposed wire directly to the bare metal on the can means that the can will also pick up TV signals and transmit them through the speaker wire.

4. Turn your TV on. Set the TV to a channel that doesn’t get very good reception. This will help you determine the best place for you to place your new tin can antenna.

5. Attach the other side of the speaker wire to the back of the TV, in the UHF area. This will have a couple of little metal screws to screw the wires into.

6. Adjust the tin can antenna as needed. With the TV on and the antenna hooked up, you will be able to see what kind of effect your antenna is having. Adjust the position of the antenna until you get the desired result.
