Know which lenses to get for your D80 to get the most out of the camera.
The D80 is a digital SLR (Single-Lens Reflex) camera from Nikon. The D80 has a Nikon F-mount, making it compatible with many different lenses from several brands. Many professional photographers will know find these lens types, but for the amateur photographer, it is best to have a list of compatible lenses for the D80. There are certain Nikon name brand and third party lenses that will work with the D80.
Nikon Lenses
Nikon states the all type G or D AF Nikkor lenses are fully compatible with the D80, supporting all functions. Type G Nikkor lenses have no physical aperture ring, requiring users to adjust the settings from the camera body. Type D lenses are like type G lenses, but also relay subject to camera distance information to the camera body. An example of a Type G lens is the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G. An example of a type D lens is the AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D. The D80 is also compatible with AF-P Nikkor lenses, however autofocus will not function on the D80. Sigma Lenses
Sigma has a long line of lenses that fully function with the D80. Compatible wide angle lenses include the 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM, the 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM, and the 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM. D80 compatible macro lenses include the 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 DC Macro HSM, the 105mm F2.8 EX DG Macro, and the 150mm EX APO DG HSM Macro. Telephoto lenses include the 300mm F2.8 EX APO DG HSM, the 500 mm F4.5 EX DG APO HSM, and the 800mm F5.6 EX APO DG HSM. See resources for a link to a list of all D80 compatible Sigma lenses.
Tamron Lenses
Undedicated Tamron lenses that are compatible with the D80 include the 18-270mm PZD and the 18-200mm F3.5-6.3. High-speed and super-wide lenses include the SP 17-50mm F/2.8 VC and the SP 10-24mm. Tokina Lenses
All lenses from Tokina's AT-X and AT-X Pro Series are compatible with the Nikon D80. Wide angle lenses in the AT-X pro series include the AF 11-16mm f/2.8, the AF 16-50mm f/2.8, the AF 12-24mm f/4, and the AF 12-24mm f/4. Macro lenses in the series include the AF 100mm f/2.8 Macro and the AF 35mm f/2.8 Macro. Tokina also makes the ATX 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 Fish-Eye lens and the AF 80-400mm f.4.5-5.6 telephoto lens.
