Set Up The Optical Sound For A Comcast Dvr

Setting up the optical sound for a Comcast DVR is an excellent choice to get high-quality sound on your favorite television shows. If your television or stereo system has an optical audio input, the right cable is all you need to complete the process. Install the cable and you'll be enjoying your favorite programs with crystal-clear audio in no time.

Instructions

Connecting Optical Audio

1. Purchase an optical audio (TOSLINK) cable. The cable most likely will not come with your television or Comcast DVR. You can find it at major electronics retailers as well as online. Check around to find the best price; lower priced versions will work just as well as the pricier name brands.

2. Check the audio and video connection options for your television. The connections will vary by your television's model and age. Newer-model televisions with an HDMI connection can receive both audio and video connections with an HDMI cable, and you will then be able to connect the optical audio to your stereo.

3. Remove the plastic guards over the ends of the optical audio cable, if it has them.

4. Remove the plug covering your component's input or, if it has a sliding lid cover, slide it up before inserting the cable.

5. Connect the cable to your DVR. The ends are square-like but smaller on one side. Line it up so it fits correctly and push it in.

6. Connect the other end to your TV or stereo system. Turn on the components to test the audio.

7. Your stereo may have settings for both analog and digital for each input. If so, set the input for your DVR to digital. You should now have high-quality sound.
