Vw Tdi Battery Specs

VW makes a line of turbo diesel cars that rival hybrids for fuel efficiency.

The VW TDI series of cars use batteries to help start the turbo-diesel engines. They are European spec batteries, so they are somewhat more rare on the market than domestic model batteries. They use a 94R battery in their TDI models.

Dimensions

The VW TDI battery weighs 45 pounds and sits in the engine bay of the VW. It is 13 inches long, 7 inches wide, and 7.5 inches tall with the handle folded flush on top. It has two half-inch wide electrical contacts on top. It has a 13-inch long handle on the top to facilitate its removal and replacement.

Electrical Specs

The VW TDI battery has 765 cold cranking amps at 0 degrees Fahrenheit. It can deliver these 765 amps for 30 seconds if fresh. The VW TDI battery has a reserve capacity of 135 amps. This will give the VW TDI a reference capacity of 910 amps at room temperature.

Construction

The VW TDI battery is made from high-impact plastic on top of a metal shell. The handle is also high-impact plastic. The electrical contacts are made from stainless steel to resist corrosion. The battery itself is a maintenance-free calcium and silver matrix. Only a mechanic should service it.
