Get Digital Cable Tv On A Mac Notebook

Get Digital Cable TV on a Mac Notebook

Watching digital cable TV on your computer screen is easy with the right hardware and a small amount of setup. There are multiple devices that help connect your cable service to display on your Mac, PC and multiple other devices as well. Specifically for Mac is the EyeTV and for multiple devices there is the Slingbox or LocationFree players.

Instructions

Setup for EyeTV

1. Purchase EyeTV Hybrid device. EyeTV is a USB device created by Elgato Systems that directly connects via a cable to your Mac.

2. Screw your incoming cable cord into the EyeTV Hybrid just the same as you would as if plugging the cable into the back of a television.

3. Plug the USB end of the EyeTV Hybrid into one of your Mac's USB ports.

4. Install provided software. EyeTV provides its own software to broadcast and control live TV on your Mac. Install this software and begin watching TV.

Set Up a Slingbox or LocationFree Device

5. Purchase a Slingbox or Sony LocationFree Base Station. Both of these devices serve the same purpose and operate almost identically. These devices plug into your Digital Cable service and let both Mac and PC users wirelessly watch live TV over an Internet service.

6. Connect the Slingbox or LocationFree devices using the provided RCA A/V cables. One set of RCA A/V cables will be attached to the output on the back of your cable box or DVR and the other end will connect to the back of the Slingbox or LocationFree device.

7. Connect the Slingbox or LocationFree device to your home Internet network. Connect an ethernet cable from your home router to the back of the Slingbox or LocationFree device.

8. Install provided software. Both companies will provide software to watch live TV over your home network or even connect over other Internet connections from other locations.
