Use A Microphone When Performing

Use a Microphone When Performing

If you move your singing performance from rehearsal to the stage, you need to know the workings of all the technical items you will encounter there. The way you handle the microphone and speaker system can make or break your performance.

Instructions

1. Before going on stage, make sure you can make any adjustments to your microphone setup during the performance swiftly and effortlessly.

2. Adjust the microphone stand if it is too high or too low.

3. Watch where the cables and amplifiers are located. Make certain that you won't trip over any cables and cords when moving around on the stage.

4. Move the stand away from the performance area if you want to lift the mike from the stand.

5. Remember that the mike is there to catch your sound as you are singing to the audience. Project your voice beyond the mike and not at it. That way, you'll be less likely to strain your voice.

6. Avoid pointing your mike directly at the speakers; otherwise, you'll get the dreaded howling "feedback" effect that can effectively spoil any performance.

7. Conduct a sound check before every performance. Ask someone competent to help you evaluate your sound.
