The right equipment can give you great shots even in low light.
Few digital cameras perform very well in low light conditions such as indoors, at night, or at dusk. A few models stand out not only for their ability to capture great images in such conditions, but for their mix of features as well.
Canon PowerShot G12
The Canon PowerShot G12 is a fixed-lens camera with almost all of the manual control found in a more-expensive single-lens reflex digital camera. It takes great photos, as well as video in the 720p high definition format. A 10 megapixel sensor, front and back control dials, hot shoe, an optical viewfinder, and a 28 mm to 140 mm range zoom lens, as well as the camera's excellent low-light performance, are among its most outstanding features.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5
This pocket-sized camera offers a hot shoe like the Canon PowerShot G12, but it does not have an optical viewfinder. It does offer very good performance in all lighting situations, and its list of features includes a 3-inch touch screen, a 3.8x optical zoom, and 720p HD video capability.
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7
The DSC-TX7 lists 10.2 megapixel resolution, 4x optical zoom, 10 frame-per-second burst mode, 3.5 inch LCD high resolution display, and 1080i high definition recording with stereo audio among its features. The DVDirect feature allows you to insert the camera's Memory Stick into compatible DVD recorders for easy playback; another unique feature, TransferJet, enables users to transfer up to ten files wirelessly between two enabled devices simply by touching them together.
Nikon D5000
This entry-level digital SLR has a 12.9 megapixel image sensor, and a tilt and swivel LCD display that is used for status readouts, live viewing, and image and video playback. Other features include a 200 to 3200 ISO range for great low-light images, a built-in flash, a scene recognition exposure system, and Nikon's "Active D-Lighting", which boosts shadow details while preventing overexposure highlights.
