Night time shot of stars can be taken with some knowledge of photography.
Taking a picture of the stars at night can be difficult. It requires a long exposure setting and keeping the camera steady to get that nice, clean shot of the stars. A tripod and a camera with a self timer will help in keeping the camera steady. The most important piece of equipment needed is a camera with manual settings that allows for long exposures at different intervals. The longer the better because it keeps the shutter open allowing the light from the stars to come in and be captured by the camera.
Instructions
1. Attach the wide angle lens to the digital SLR camera. The wide angle lens will allow for a nice wide shot of the night sky. Ensure the lens is secured to the camera and attach the camera to the tripod.
2. Steady the tripod on the ground and aim the camera to the night stars. Make sure the tripod is not going to tip over. Turn the camera on. Focus on the shot of the stars.
3. Turn the camera controls to the manual setting. This will allow manual controls of the shutter speed. Turn the shutter speed setting to 30 seconds. This will leave the shutter open for 30 seconds before it is released. This will allow the camera to have a long exposure and allow for the camera to gather as much light as it can within that 30 seconds.
4. Turn on the camera's timer control. This will allow the shutter button to be depressed between two and five seconds after it is physically depressed. Setting the timer control allows for the camera to depress the shutter button and reduces camera shake from when the shutter button is physically depressed.
5. Wait for the camera to take the picture. The camera will have two separate clicks. This first click is when the timer opens the shutter and the second is when the shutter is closed after the 30 seconds has elapsed.
