Clear an iPhone 3G
Consider your iPhone an extension of your computer--you can access your email, surf the Internet, browse through your address book and purchase applications and music through your device. You wouldn't sell your computer without erasing important and private information, and you shouldn't sell your iPhone either without restoring it back to the original factory settings. Whether you're selling your phone or accidentally lost it, it's important to erase all of your personal information from the phone to prevent unauthorized access.
Instructions
To Clear your iPhone from your Phone
1. Press the "Home" button at the bottom of your iPhone. Unlock it.
2. Tap the "Settings" button on your screen, then tap the "General" tab. Scroll down and tap the "Reset" tab.
3. Select "Erase All Content and Settings" and enter your password to confirm your request.
To Clear your iPhone from iTunes
4. Plug in the iPhone USB cable from the phone to an empty USB slot on your computer. Wait for your computer to recognize the device and start up iTunes.
5. Click your device's name under the "Devices" section in iTunes on the left side of the window. Click the "Restore" button, followed by "Back Up" to back up your phone's information.
6. Disconnect your phone from the computer when iTunes says disconnection is OK.
To Clear your iPhone using MobileMe
7. Go to me.com, enter your user name and password followed by clicking the "Log In" button. MobileMe is an online service offered by Apple that allows you to check email, manage calendars, photos and your files online and pushes the information to your computer and phone.
8. Click the second button from the right and re-enter your password for account verification. Scroll down and click the "Remote Wipe" button.
9. Check the box to confirm you wish to remotely wipe your phone, and click the "Erase All Data" button.
