The Sony TCD-D7 is a portable tape recorder designed to record notes, meetings, lectures or other audio content for later use. In 2010 it is not currently in production, as tape recorders have largely been replaced by solid-state forms, like MP3 players, which are less susceptible to jarring or bumping and provide more memory.
Power
The Sony TCD-D7 can be powered three different ways: through a car's cigarette lighter, a 240-volt AC adapter or 4 AA batteries. This means that battery power can be saved for when other power sources are unavailable. Regardless of which power source it is using, the TCD-D7 uses 1.2 watts of power.
Size
With batteries installed, the TCD-D7 weighs around 1 pound. It is 5 inches long, 1.5 inches high and 3.5 inches tall, or roughly the size of a large man's hand.
Capacity
The Sony TCD-D7 can record 120 minutes on its standard setting, or 240 minutes on the lower-quality long-play setting.
Other Functions
The Sony TCD-D7 has a time and date function, displayed on its LCD screen, to mark when recordings are made. The recording level can be adjusted to compensate for very quiet or very loud environments, and it can be attached to audio components to record from other inputs.
