Philips Remote Control Instructions

Philips universal remote controls are easy-to-use solutions for reducing the amount of remote clutter in your home. They are terrifically designed with intuitive button layout and simple set-up instructions. By following these Philips remote control instructions, you will be able to program your remote as well as add brand specific functions to the remote.


Setting Up a Component


Turn on the device that you want to program. Find the "Setup" button, press and hold it for five seconds. A LED will light up and remain lit. Press the corresponding component button (TV, DVD, Cable, etc.). Locate the code for the component you want to control in the instruction manual. Enter the code using the number keys on the remote. Press the power button to see if the component will turn off. If it does, turn the power back on and press other function keys to see if the component is responding correctly.


Philips Universal remotes also can look for codes by brand. The brand code is found in the instruction manual. Press and hold the "Setup" button until the LED stays lit. Next press the button that corresponds to the device you want to control. Enter the brand code and press and release the power button until the device responds. Press the "Mute" button to store the code.


Learning Function


Most of the time there are brand specific functions found on any given components remote control that are not available on the Philips remote. This is where the learning function comes in handy.


Press and hold the "Setup" button until the LED remains lit up. Press the button of the device you want to control. Next, press the "Learn" button. Now press a button on the Philips remote that you want to learn the new function.


Point the remotes at each other on a flat surface about one inch away. Press and hold the button on the original remote that you want the Philips remote to learn. When the Philips remote has learned the function, the LED will flash. Press the "setup" button to finish. Repeat these steps for any other functions you want the Philips remote to learn.
