Format A Sdhc Memory Card

SDHC cards come in various storage sizes, with a maximum of 32 GB.

A Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) card is a popular portable storage unit. It is widely used in camcorders, digital cameras, MP3 players, notebooks, PDAs and other electronic devices. Its convenient physical size and storage capacity allows for efficient data storage and transfer between devices and computing equipment. If a large number of files need to be permanently removed, it is wise to format your SDHC card to fully erase all data from the card's sectors.

Instructions

1. Connect your SDHC card to an external or built-in memory card reader. If using an external card reader, connect it to an available USB port on your computer.

2. Launch "My Computer" from your desktop or Start menu entry. Highlight the SDHC device, which should be assigned a volume label next to your local hard disk(s). Right-click it, followed by the "Format" option from the context menu shown.

3. Choose your preferred file system from the available list, NTFS being the standard for modern equipment. Click "Start," and allow your computer to finish the formatting procedure.

4. Click "Close" from the formatting window in question. If no new data is to be stored, right-click the device and select "Eject" to safely disable it and remove it from your system.
