The Sony CDX-MP30 is a model of aftermarket car stereo manufactured by Sony, a Japanese electronics company. This type of CD player is usually purchased to replace an existing stereo; it is not included as standard with any vehicles. If your CDX-MP30 stops functioning properly, you can run through troubleshooting steps to try and diagnose the problem. Some common problems with car stereos include blown fuses, incorrect settings and loose connections. Troubleshooting your CDX-MP30 will take approximately 20 minutes.
Instructions
1. Check for power. If the stereo does not turn on you should first make sure the keys are turned to the correct position in the ignition. Second, consult your car owner's manual and locate the fuse box. You should purchase a replacement fuse from your nearest auto store and install it in your car in place of the existing fuse. If the stereo's fuse has blown it will not power up.
2. Check for sound. Switch your Sony stereo to radio mode and turn the volume up. If you hear static or a station then you can rule out problems with your speaker cables and speakers. Make sure the stereo is not set to "ATT" (mute) mode by pressing the "ATT" button beneath the LCD display.
3. Try using a store bought CD in the CD player. Some CDs made on home computers cannot be played by the stereo. If an MP3 CD is slow to play back or does not play at all, it could be due to the way the CD was written, or that the files are not in MP3 format. If the CDs are ejected automatically, it is because the CD player is too hot. Turn off the stereo and allow it to cool down.
4. Make sure the removable face is correctly attached. If not, the CD will not power up or may turn off abruptly.
5. Try resetting the Sony stereo by pressing and holding the "Reset" button, located behind the removable face.
6. Purchase a set of stereo removal tools (see Resources) if the above steps fail to identify or rectify the problem. You can use these C-shaped prongs to pull the stereo from the dashboard. With the stereo removed, you can check the power, speaker and aerial connections are firmly connected before replacing it back into the dashboard.
