Install Coaxial Cable F Connectors

If you are hooking up a satellite TV service or cable service, you might need coax cable of various lengths to make long runs from the roof or cable box to the receiver unit. The problem with needing various lengths of coax cable is that you cannot find some lengths in stores. You can use two different methods to terminate the end of a cable, including the coaxial cable F connector.

Instructions

1. Locate the end of the coax cable that you will install the F Connector onto.

2. Use the wire strippers to remove the black shielding from end of the cable about 1 inch from the end. Leave the silver foil shielding exposed and on the cable.

3. Wrap the packaging tape around the silver foil. Leave enough room so that you can cut between the black shielding and the silver foil. The tape will make cleanup of the foil pieces easier and also provide a cutting guide. Cut the silver foil from the cable, exposing the white dielectric portion of the cable.

4. Take the black ring portion of the F Connector and slide it onto the cable. Slide the rest of the connector on the cable, making sure the dielectric portion and conductor are flush with the end of the connector. Slide the black ring into the main housing of the connector to lock it in place.

5. Use the pliers or wrench to ensure the connector has completely seated with the black ring. Snip any excess conductor that extends farther than the end of the connector.
