DVD-5, also know as single layer DVDs, are the most commonly found type of DVD on the market. Their popularity centers on the fact that, unlike DVD-9 disks, which can hold almost twice the data, DVD-5s are significantly less expensive, and can be written to at much higher speeds. With the ability to hold up to 4.38 gigabytes of content, the DVD-5 disk offers a convenient and versatile place to back up or store the data of your choosing. Furthermore, with the multitude of refined burning options available today, it has never been easier to take advantage of this technology.
Instructions
1. Insert your blank DVD-5 disk into your computer's DVD burner.
2. Open and run Nero burning software, or similar DVD authoring software, and select the DVD type you wish to write to. Remember to choose DVD-5.
3. Click the "Add" button on the DVD burning software, and choose the files from your hard drive that you wish to place on the blank DVD. DVD disks are versatile in that you are able to place on them almost any type of data including video content. However, it is important to note that if your intention is to create a DVD video disk to play on a stand alone DVD player, you will not be able to put any alternate content on the same disk and expect it to play properly.
4. Select the speed at which you want the burner to write to the disk. The maximum write speed of the DVD will be written on the face of the disk itself. In most cases, the burning software will automatically identify and cap to the maximum common write speed of both the burner and disk in question.
5. Click the "Burn" button and allow several minutes, depending on the write speed chosen and amount of data being written, for the burning session to complete.
