The 1996 Ford F-150 truck was built with a radio installed in the dash as a standard feature. Many audio enthusiasts like to improve their truck's audio system performance by replacing this factory radio with an aftermarket model installed in its place. The necessary first step toward changing the factory stereo is removing it. You can accomplish this quickly with only simple tools.
Instructions
1. Remove any media, like cassette tapes, from the radio. Turn off the ignition of the truck, remove the key, and set the parking brake.
2. Insert a pair of DIN tools into the openings on the right and left side of the radio. One tool goes into each pair of small holes you'll see there. DIN tools are available at auto supply and car stereo retailers.
3. Push the tools in until you hear and slight click and the tools will not go in any further.
4. Spread the edges of the tools outward and pull firmly on them away from the dash. The radio will slide out from the dashboard.
5. Reach around to the back of the radio and unplug the wiring harnesses and antenna cable connected to the rear panel.
