Optimize The Battery Life On The Verizon Droid X Phone

The Droid X is designed to provide eight hours of talk time. That number takes a dramatic nosedive if you're using your phone to play games, run applications, take pictures or anything you want to use the phone for. Fortunately, you can use several different strategies to optimize your Droid X battery life, from shutting down running applications to making sure your screen isn't always on.

Instructions

1. Turn on your Droid X and press the "Menu" button. Tap "Settings." Touch "Display" and "Brightness." Turn on "Automatic brightness" if it's not already turned on. When automatic brightness is turned on, the Droid automatically adjusts the brightness levels depending on the light of the room and the image on the screen; it's the best way to conserve your battery power.

2. Touch "Screen timeout" under "Display Settings." Tap either 15 or 30 seconds. Screen timeout is the length of time it takes the Droid X to shut off due to inactivity. For example, if you choose 15 seconds, then your Droid X's screen will shut off after 15 seconds of inactivity.

3. Press the "Home" button. Tap the "Android Marketplace" and type "App killer" in the "Search" box. Download one of the many available application killers. Place the application on your home screen or one of your sub-screens and press it every time you're done with an application. The Android operating system thrives on multitasking, which means it can run nearly an unlimited amount of applications at one time. Unfortunately, this is terrible for your battery life. Application killers shut down all applications.

4. Exit the "Navigation" application manually. If you use the "Navigation" application, which is the GPS, you must exit it manually. An application killer will not shut the application down. The "Navigation" application can potentially kill your battery faster than anything else you do on your phone.
