Use a microscope adapter to transfer magnified images from the viewing field to a camera or video recorder. The adapter replaces a camera lens with an ocular that fits over a microscope eye piece. The adapter was originally made to attach 35 mm SLR cameras to microscopes and now many are available for digital cameras. The camera view finder can be used to watch magnified activity and still photos and films can be recorded for presentations. Use a microscope adapter to accomplish photomicrography.
Instructions
1. Acquire the correct adapter for the camera and microscope to be coupled. There is a standard for microscope eye pieces, but there are also exceptions. Some microscopes have dedicated ports for mating cameras. Camera lenses vary widely between manufacturers and their various models, and some require special adapter features to work with microscopes. Even universal adapters do not fit all combinations. Check the camera makers list on Microscope.com for adapters to fit specific camera models.
2. Unscrew the lens from a camera and replace it with the threaded adapter mounting ring. Couple the adapter with the magnifying ocular, by pushing the fitted adapter into the front sleeve. Take the rubber cap off the back of the ocular. Screw the ocular onto the mounting ring that replaced the lens.
3. Take the eye piece off the microscope by pulling it gently out of the optic tube. Slip the adapter on the camera into the optic tubing. The correct adapter size fits the tube perfectly snug.
4. Pull the camera slowly away from the microscope to extend the barrel on the ocular for full magnification viewing. Tighten the holding screw to retain positioning. Adjust the focus and record photos or film.
