Format your USB memory stick.
USB flash drives (also known as "memory sticks") are great tools for carrying large amounts of data in a very portable format. If you have bought a USB memory stick and want to use it, you may have to format it, depending on the type of memory stick you purchased. This formatting process takes just a few minutes and is very easy to do. Once formatted, you'll be able to use the memory stick on your computer.
Instructions
1. Insert your USB memory stick into a USB port on your computer.
2. Wait until the USB memory stick has been detected by the operating system. Open Windows Explorer by right-clicking the "Start" button and selecting "Explore," then right-click on the drive letter associated with your USB memory stick.
3. Select the "Format" option. Type in the label you want the drive to have and choose the "Quick Format" option. Click the "Start" button and the formatting will commence. Once finished, you will be alerted and you can then use your USB memory stick.
