Wire A Power Acoustik Ptid5300 Dvd Player

The Power Acoustik PTID-5300 in-dash car stereo and DVD video player was produced around 2008 and has since been discontinued, but a few used units were available online as of November 2011. You can connect the wires of the player's 16-pin wiring harness to the wiring of your vehicle's audio system so that all of the functions are working. Car audio connections are subject to wide swings in temperature and humidity, so solder and heat-shrink tubing will form the best connections. If you can unplug the vehicle's audio wiring harness, you'll find it easier to make the connections indoors rather than in the vehicle.

Instructions

1. Disconnect the vehicle's negative battery cable before you begin, if you are making these connections in the vehicle.

2. Cut the old connector off the vehicle's audio wiring harness. Strip the last half-inch of insulation from each of the severed wires. Strip the ends of the wires for the PTID-5300 wiring harness.

3. Slide a two-inch section of heat-shrink tubing over each of the wires on the stereo's wiring harness.

4. Pair the yellow wire from the Power Acoustik wiring with the battery power wire on the vehicle. Twist the bare metal of the wires together. Touch the metal with the soldering iron until it's hot. Touch the metal with the solder until some of the solder melts off, so the wires are just coated with a thin layer of solder. Remove the solder and the iron. Connect the rest of the wires in the same manner. Consult your vehicle's manual for the identification of the wires. Typically, wire colors are common across a vehicle's make.

5. Solder the red wire to the vehicle's accessory power wire. Connect the pink wire to the brake wire, the blue wire to the automatic antenna control, the blue-white wire to the amplifier and the brown wire to the telephone mute wire. Note: If your vehicle does not have these features, cover the bare ends of the Power Acoustik wires with electrical tape.

6. Solder the green wire to the rear-left positive speaker wire and the green-black to the rear-left negative speaker wire, per your vehicle's wiring scheme. Connect the purple to the rear-right positive and the purple-black to the rear-right negative. Attach the white to the front-left positive and the white-black to the front-left negative. Connect the gray to the front-right positive and the gray-black to the front-right negative wire.

7. Slide the heat-shrink tubing over the connections, and shrink it with the heat gun.

8. Insert the 16-pin plug into the back of the PTID-5300 on the lower-right. Connect the antenna to the adapter that plugs into the upper-left of the unit. If you disconnected it to work on the connections in a more comfortable setting, plug the vehicle's wiring harness back into the vehicle's wiring.

9. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
