Buy A Sega Genesis

Many of us had an old Sega Genesis as a kid. We remember playing Sonic the Hedgehog and all those fighting games, and probably miss those days. Most of us don't have our Segas anymore. Over time, they've worn out and broken. But even though Sega is no longer manufactured, never fear--old Segas and Nintendos are one of the most popular video game consoles sold at flea markets and yard sales.

Instructions

1. Go to your local flea market, and look for the game shops. If you can't find them, ask some of the other sellers if they know anyone selling video games and parts. Find this store, and look for a Sega Genesis. They should be with the other old game consoles like Nintendo. If you find one that has all the controllers and parts you need, then you're all set. If not, proceed to Step 2.

2. Buy the console itself first. Normally, these will be sold separately for anywhere from $10 to $25 apiece. Make sure to ask if it is in good working order. Purchase one that looks clean, and check that you can push all the buttons. If possible, have them test it for you in the store. Look to see if the ports where you will plug the wires in look clean and are accessible.

3. Check with the flea market for Sega Genesis chords and controllers. There are two chords you need: a Sega adapter that will plug the Sega into the power outlet so you can turn it on, and an RF Audio Switch. This switch hooks the Sega to your TV and lets you choose if you want it to play on channel three or four. If you can only purchase one, buy the adapter first. That way, you can test if the Sega is going to turn on. If it doesn't light up, then your Sega doesn't work, and there's no point purchasing any other parts.

4. Once you have a working Sega console and adapter, purchase the RF Audio Switch if you haven't got it already. If your flea market doesn't sell them, you can buy a new one online at eBay. A new one runs about $8. If your Sega turns on, but it doesn't show up on the TV screen, your RF Audio Switch isn't working, and you'll need to buy a new one.

5. After your Sega turns on and shows up on the screen, you need to buy some controllers and the games of your choice. Plug in the game and one or two controllers, depending on if you're playing against another person, hit the power button, and you're ready to play Sega Genesis.
