Photo Booth Tricks

Some filters in Photo Booth are similar to those of Adobe Photoshop.

Photo Booth is an image software that comes with Macintosh iSight cameras. It is a built-in computer application made solely for Mac users. Users can add more flair to their photos with styles, effects and backgrounds. This application makes it easier for users to edit their photos and videos right after taking them. Just like a real photo booth, users select preloaded backdrops to give their images a different feel.

Changing Image Styles

One popular Photo Booth trick is adding a photo effect. The user inverts the photo he has taken by clicking 'Edit', then 'Flip Photo.' By choosing 'Auto Flip New Photos', the software automatically inverts the next pictures.

The user adds distortion effects to a particular image by clicking on the 'Effects' and choosing from a list of distortion presets. He can select Twirl, Twist and other settings. Clicking on any part of the image creates more twirling effects on the picture.

Many photo effects are applied with this software program. Among these are Colored Pencil, Sepia, Thermal Camera and X-Ray. Colored pencil lends a hand-drawn appearance to the image. Sepia turns a picture into a neutral gold monochrome. Thermal Camera saturates the colors in the picture and improves the vibrancy with hues of red, green, blue and yellow. X-Ray gives a true black-and-white effect.

Downloading New Effects

Aside from the prepackaged effects in Photo Booth, the user can also download additional effects from other sources to create artistic photos. Retro Pixels gives an effect of a retro video shoot; Bent Pels distorts an optical image. The Boob Tube effect gives television screen effects, which makes the images look like they have been captured on TV. Another effect is called Few Tile, which gives a tiled image style on the photo.

Internet stores and application sites offer patches to the Photo Booth program as well.

Using Shortcuts

There are many shortcut keys in Photo Booth. To disable flash during a picture shot, the user presses the Shift key along with the shutter. The countdown timer is disabled when the user holds the Alt key along with the shutter. Numbers 1 through 9 on the keyboard have predesignated effects assigned to them. Choosing from these numbers enable the user to add a style to their photos quickly.

Making Animated Icons

Photo Booth users can create animated icons from the images captured. By using the Burst Mode, users take four quick pictures with a single click. These snapshots can be exported in .GIF format and used in iChat, Macintosh's instant messenger, as a moving image. They can also use these images in their Address Book, or organize and edit the photos with Mac's built-in photo editor, iPhoto.
