Use An Existing Receiver For Surround Sound

You need more than the standard six speakers (subwoofer, center, left and right, surround left and right) to be able to experience surround sound. You also need a surround sound receiver, which basically acts as the base for the system. It is where all audio sources are connected to, and also where the speakers are connected. Surround sound speaker connections are pretty much standard for all brands of receivers, so using an existing receiver with new surround sound speakers is not difficult.

Instructions

1. Turn off your receiver and position it in a location where you can access the back connections panel.

2. Locate the six speaker connection ports and connect each speaker cord to its corresponding port. Each port has two connections, negative and positive. The cords have negative and positive connections on each end and each connection will be identified as such.

3. Connect the other ends of the speaker cords into the corresponding speakers. Ensure that the negative/positive ports have been plugged in correctly (they MUST be in the right connection ports) in the receiver and speakers.

4. Position your surround sound speakers in their desired locations and put your receiver back where you want it. Your existing receiver is now ready to use your new surround sound speakers.
