Install Slingbox

The Slingbox is a device that allows you to view video from connected sources such as an HDTV cable box or digital converter box not only on your TV, but also on your desktop or laptop. You can access shows that you've recorded or even live TV as it streams over the Internet using the Slingbox. You can even connect other home-theater devices such as a DVD or Blu-ray player.

Instructions

1. Connect component cables from the component output jacks on the back of your HD video device to the component input jacks on the back of the Slingbox. If you do not have an HD video device, skip this step and go to Step 2. After you have connected the component cables, skip to Step 3.

2. Connect a yellow RCA cable from the back of the standard definition video source (such as a digital converter box) to the back of the Slingbox.

3. Connect a second set of video cables from the output on the back of the Slingbox to an available input on the back of the TV. Use the same type of cable you used in Step 1 or 2.

4. Connect red and white RCA audio cables from the back of your video device to the back of the Slingbox, then connect a second set of RCA cables from the output on the back of the Slingbox to the audio inputs on the back of the TV. Use the same input you used in Step 3.

5. Attach the Slingbox IR controller cables above and below the IR sensor on your video device. If you do not know where the sensor is, shine a flashlight into the tinted plastic on the front of your device and look for a small bulb, which is the sensor. Afix the IR controller cables to the video device using the stickers that came with your Slingbox.

6. Connect the other end of the IR controller cable to the back of the Slingbox.

7. Connect an Ethernet cable from the back of the Slingbox to one of the four LAN ports on the back of the router.

8. Plug in the Slingbox and turn it on. Also turn on the TV and the video devices.
