About the Miata
The Miata, produced by Mazda since the early 90s, is a popular, reasonably priced sports car that has won high praise through the years for its performance and styling. The fun of driving a Miata can be augmented by having a good stereo system on board. If you're driving a Miata and want to upgrade the factory stereo, one of the best places to start is with the factory-installed door speakers.
Removing the door panels
To remove the door speakers, you'll need to remove the door panels first. Start by prying out a round retaining clip in the upper front corner of the door. Use a panel tool or a flat putty knife to do this. Then remove the screw from the center of the door release trim. Pry out the trim piece after the screw is removed. Then take out the two screws on the underside of the door handle. Pry out two retaining clips at the rear of the door panel, and then pry around the perimeter of the door panel to remove it.
Taking the speakers out
Unscrew the four screws holding the speaker in place and pull the speaker away from the door and disconnect it. Take your new speaker, connect the wiring adapter to it, and screw it in place in the door. Replace the door panel by reversing the steps in Section 1 and 2.
