The Plantronics DSP 500 is a computer microphone and headset often used with VoIP communication services. You can also use the DSP 500 headset to listen to audio streaming in from multimedia applications such as music and computer games. Unfortunately, the Plantronics DSP 500 was configured to work with Windows XP. Windows Vista users will run into several problems when trying to talk or operate the software that comes with the headset. There are solutions to these common issues.
Instructions
1. Un-mute the microphone if you can't be heard by the person you are trying to talk to. Select the "Control Panel" from the desktop Start menu. Click the "Recording" tab and highlight the Plantronics microphone affected. Select the "Properties" button and choose the "Levels" tab. Click on the "Mute" icon to un-mute the microphone.
2. Upgrade the software from PerSono Audio Control Center software to PerSonoCall (see Resources). PerSonoCall is the only software that is compatible with Windows Vista.
3. Request updated drivers and software from the computer manufacturer. This may be necessary if you get a message notifying you of Bluetooth incompatibility and asking you to insert a disc from the device manufacturer. Call the computer manufacturer to help identify the Bluetooth hardware on your computer, and to see if any updated drivers or software are available. Neither Microsoft nor Plantronics offer a fix for this issue.
