Washers come with flat or rounded surfaces.
A washer is a circular, metal object with a hole in the center that is used with bolts and screws. The washer strengthens the holding power of the bolt by evenly distributing the pressure from the bolt head. Like the name implies, a flat washer has a perfectly flat surface, while other washers have raised or rounded surfaces. In general, you should always use a washer any time that you install a bolt.
Instructions
1. Insert a drill bit into a drill and create a pilot hole in the material that you want to insert the bolt into. Use a traditional drill bit If you are drilling into wood, but use a masonry bit for concrete and a metal bit for metal objects. Choose a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the post on the bolt.
2. Insert the threaded end of the bolt through the center hole on the flat washer and push the washer all the way up to the head of the bolt.
3. Insert the bolt into the pilot hole and turn it clockwise with a socket wrench or adjustable wrench to tighten it.
