Transferring a home movie from a Hi8 cassette tape to a PC is great for those of us who want to share our videos with our families online, on a CD/DVD or even just to keep them organized. Its easy to transfer videos from a camcorder that doesn't connect directly to a computer system. Once you have transferred your videos to your PC, you open up a world of possibilities--sharing, editing, turning videos into clips, creating titles and chapters; the sky is the limit.
Instructions
Transferring Hi8 Video to Your PC
1. Purchase a USB video capture device.
2. Follow the instructions, depending on what device you choose, to set it up on your PC.
3. A CD/DVD
Install the software that came with your device.
4. Standard video cables
Connect the video-out cable from your camera to the video capture device.
5. Rewind.
Rewind the Hi8 tape in the camera.
6. Start the software and click on "Start Capturing."
7. Press "Play" on the camcorder to start recording.
8. Press "Stop" on both the camcorder and software when the video or clip is complete.
9. Don't forget to save.
Name and save your new digital video file.
