Restore A Dead Aa Nimh Battery

Unlike standard batteries, you can use NiMH batteries over and over again.


NiMH batteries use a Nickel Metal Hydride cell to deliver power to electronic devices. Unlike standard batteries, NiMH batteries can be recharged and used repeatedly once they have ran out of power. However, NiMH batteries can experience certain conditions that force them to loose their recharging capabilities. While some batteries are beyond repair and will not come back from the dead, there are a couple steps you can take to bring your AA NiMH battery back to life.


Instructions








1. Place your dead NiMH batteries in the plastic bag and put them in your freezer. Let the batteries sit in the cold for 3-4 hours.








2. Place the battery in the discharger and let it deplete the battery completely.


3. Insert the battery into the charger as soon as it is depleted and wait overnight or until it has reached a full charge.


4. Put the battery back into the freezer and let it sit for another couple of hours.


5. Remove the battery from the freezer and place it on the discharger. Let it run completely out of power before placing it back on the charger. Charge the battery until it is full, place it in the freezer and repeat the process.


6. Continue repeating the process until the battery is restored; ideally this will take about 5-7 times. Perform the process to supplement the strength of the battery.

Install A 4way Speaker Switch

Four-way speaker switches are a great audio accessory for the homeowner looking to wire his or her house for sound. A four-way speaker switch accepts the output from a receiver or amplifier and splits it so that you can connect up to four pairs of speakers, turning them on and off independently of each other. You can choose what rooms you want to have music playing in with one source.








Instructions


1. Strip 3/8 of an inch of insulation from the ends of two pairs of speaker wires. The wires should be long enough to reach from the speaker outputs of your receiver or amplifier to the speaker inputs of the four-way speaker switch.


2. Connect the speaker wires between the speaker outputs of your receiver or amplifier and the inputs of the four-way speaker switch. One pair of speaker wires will be connected between the "+" and "-" terminals of the "R" (right) output of the receiver/amp and the "+" and "-" terminals of the "R" (right) input of the four-way speaker switch. Repeat the process with the "L" (left) terminals. Remember--you're going "out" from the receiver and "in" to the switch.








3. Strip 3/8 inch of insulation from the speaker wires that lead to your other speakers. Connect them to the outputs of your four-way switch. Mark your wires as you go along with tape or cable labels so that you can keep track of which output of the speaker switch goes to which pair of speakers.

The Nokia 5300 is a small multimedia-friendly cellular phone. It was released in 2006 for use with T-Mobile networks in North America and is compatible with other GSM networks worldwide.


Form Factor

Instructions

3. Locate your slide show file. Find it in the folder you saved it in, typically "Documents."








4. Create a copy of the slideshow. To do this, click on the file to highlight it and right-click, then select "Copy."


5. Save the copy to your flash drive or SD drive. To do this, find your drive in the list on the left-hand side of Explore. Click on the drive to highlight it, and then right click and select "Paste." Windows will write a copy of your slidesyour drive.


6. Verify the copy of the slideshow is on the drive and working properly. Double click on the drive and locate the file. Double click on the file, and it will open in the slideshow program you created it in.

What Is Infrared Light?


Infrared light is one of the most commonly discussed forms of light within the spectrum. At the most basic, infrared light is referred to as heat; it is a type of radiation, the wavelengths of which can't be seen by human eyes, but which is felt as heat. Infrared light is seen through the use of special cameras, and this particular wavelength of light is useful in many ways.


Features


Infrared light lies between visible light and microwaves on the electromagnetic spectrum. It has different lengths, which range from what is sometimes called "near infrared," which is closest to visible light and "far infrared," which is closer to microwaves. Instead of seeing infrared light, as we see visible light, infrared light is sensed in the form of heat. Effects


The effects of infrared radiation can be extremely useful. People use it whenever they heat their homes, cook food or operate any machinery that gives off heat. However, infrared radiation can be dangerous if not monitored properly; in too high of a concentration it can cause burns and result in fire.


Benefits


Infrared light is useful in many ways. Without the infrared radiation that comes to Earth from the sun, Earth would not be able to support life as we know it. This is a feature lacking not only on the iPhone, but also on most smart phones. Create an iPhone app for the purpose, one with a pop-up prompt asking you whether you have done a specific task or not, with the option to mark the task as done, or pending. The frequency of these prompts could be set in the options. This could certainly be a productivity booster.

No tunes in the car makes for a quiet commute or a deadly-dull roadtrip. When the CD player stops working, the natural tendency is to fret a costly repair while the sound of cash register bells jingles in your head. Don't worry. Before you head to the repair shop for an estimate on your car stereo, try these troubleshooting steps to diagnose and possibly fix the problem yourself.








Narrow the Problem


Narrow the problem to a specific area. You can quickly determine if the radio works but not the CD player, or if one set of stereo speakers will produce sound but the other pair is silent. Once you've isolated the problem, you can save time and concentrate on a solution. Quick remedies include checking the balance and fade controls on the CD player to determine if some speakers are working but not others. If the CD player will not turn on and no light appears on the control panel, pop the hood of your car and check the power cable attached to the positive terminal of the battery for a secure connection. Also check the fuse box in the power cable to see if the glass fuse inside is blown.


Check the Wiring








If you are not getting any sound, use an electric meter available from electronics stores such as Radio Shack to check current flow through the speaker wires. Unscrew or snap off the grille covers for your speakers, then unscrew the speakers themselves from the mounting. Attach the alligator clips to the speaker wires. If you get a reading, you probably have a blown speaker, since current is getting through but the speaker produces no sound. If there is no reading on the meter, you may have a broken or disconnected speaker wire somewhere along the line. The easiest solution is to run new speaker wire rather than try to locate and repair broken wire.


Also use the meter to check the connections to any separate components, including power amplifiers (usually installed under the driver's seat) and subwoofers.


Troubleshooting CD Playback


Check the wiring harness for a secure connection to the back of the CD player using a flashlight to look under the dashboard. If the harness is secure and all other connections appear to be working, disconnect the positive cable from the car battery for at least 10 minutes, which will cause the CD player to revert to the factory presets. This may solve playback problems, although you will need to reset your FM stations and the clock.


Solve "disc error" messages by cleaning the CD player with a laser lens-cleaning product. These are shaped like a CD with a tiny brush on one side that sweeps the laser lens clean of dist and lint, which can accumulate rapidly in an automobile. For adding cleaning power, place a drop of rubbing alcohol on the brush. Allow the alcohol to evaporate completely before attempting to play a CD.


You can also clean and buff your CDs with a lint-free cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol to remove fingerprints, smudges and dirt.

Instructions


1. Purchase three tungsten shop lights from any home improvement store, or a professional light kit if you can afford it. Purchase one 150-watt tungsten light, one 100-watt light and one 75-watt light.


2. Position the product in whatever manner you wish to photograph it. Typically, products are placed on tables or on some other solid surface.


3. Place the highest wattage light, 150-watt tungsten bulb, slightly to the right of the product. This light will act as your key light, or main light source. The height of the light should be along the same horizontal plane of the product; however, feel free to raise or lower this light to achieve the effect you desire.


4. Position the 100-watt tungsten light on the left side of the product. Adjust the height of this light to counterbalance any shadows created by the key light. Like the key light, adjust the height of the light according to the effect you wish to create.








5. Place the 75-watt light directly behind the product. The purpose of this position is to create a rim of light around the product to separate the product from the background. Typically, the backlight is placed below the product, and the light beam is pointing toward to top portion of the subject. You may reverse this position and have the light above product or directly behind the product. Again, move the light around until it creates the ideal backlight.








6. Adjust the camera's white balance to "tungsten" to ensure the camera properly captures the colors of the product. Because tungsten and other artificial sources of light are dimmer than the sun, adjust the camera ISO settings to 400 so more light is absorbed by the camera.

Hookup Dvd Player To Tv Having Only One Rf (Cable) Input

Connecting external video sources such as DVD players, VCR's, cable boxes and game consoles which require separate A/V Inputs, to an older televisions that has only one, RF-cable connection can be accomplished using a Multiple-Input, Auto-Sensing, Auto-Switching RF Adapter. Follow these steps to use an RF modulator to connect a cable box, VCR and DVD player to the television's single input.








Instructions


1. Leave the cable box powered on but disconnected from the TV or VCR. All other components should be disconnected and unplugged, giving clear and easy access to all connections. If components sit in an entertainment unit, make sure all A/V cables can reach the RF modulator and the cable from the modulator can easily reach the television.


2. Hookup the first coaxial cable from cable box output, usually labeled "TV," "TV out" or "Out to TV" to the cable "In" on the VCR. Connect the second coaxial cable from the VCR's out to "TV" to the coaxial input on the RF Modulator.








3. Connect the third coax cable from the coaxial cable "Out" jack on the RF Modulator to the coax cable "Input" on the television.


4. Take one A/V cable, connect the red (right audio channel,) white (left audio channel) and yellow (video) from DVD player's "Output," to the corresponding DVD "inputs" on the RF Modulator. Place components as desired but still disconnected from power. Plug in all power cables including the RF Modulator's into the surge protected outlet strip.


5. Make sure the Channel select switch usually found on the back of the VCR and the Channel select switch on the RF Modulator are both set to Channel 3. This channel is used on the television to view your components.


6. Turn on the power strip and turn on the TV. Cable reception should come on as usual. Set the TV to Channel 3 and turn on the VCR. With VCR on test it by playing a video tape. The RF Modulator should sense the signal and automatically switch to "VCR."


7. Switch off the VCR and with the television still on channel 3, turn on the DVD player. As the RF Modulator senses the DVD player signal and switches to DVD, its welcome screen should be seen on the television. Play a DVD to test and once you're done with the DVD turn it off and the cable should come back on.

Insert The Film Leader Into The Slot Of The Takeup Spool

You should secure the sprocket holes of the film over the teeth when inserting the film into the takeup spool.


Many contemporary models of 35 mm film cameras automatically load film and advance it to the first frame for you. However, if you have an old 35 mm single-lens reflex (SLR) film camera, you may be uncertain properly load the film yourself. Rest assured that most film photographers encountered problems with this task as beginners. There are some important steps you should take to make sure you have properly inserted the leader of the film into the slot of your camera's takeup spool.








Instructions


1. Open the door to your camera's film compartment. Place the roll of film on the left compartment of the camera. You may have to pull the rewind knob above this compartment all the way up so the film canister fits in. Once in, push down on the rewind knob to lock the film canister into place.








2. Pull the film out of the canister by its leader, which is the tapered smaller portion of the film. The leader is small enough to fit into the slot of the takeup spool. Pull out just enough to get to the right side of the camera where the takeup spool sits.


3. Push the film leader into one of the available slots on the takeup spool. There may be just one slot, or perhaps more depending on your specific camera. Push the leader into the slot as far as it will go.


4. Press the shutter release button and push the film advance lever completely forward to wind the film into the spool. You should see the film securely wrapping around the core of the takeup spool. Advance until you can see the entire width of the film, not just the leader, has begun to wind around the takeup spool.


5. Check at this time to make sure both the top and bottom sprocket holes fit over the small teeth to the left of the takeup spool. This helps secure the film into place. Physically push the film into place over the teeth if not, and try winding a little more film to straighten it out over the teeth.


6. Turn the film rewind knob to flatten the film across the back of the camera, if necessary. The film leader may break loose of the takeup spool if there is too much slack and the film does not lie flat. At the same time, do not apply any pressure by turning the film rewind knob too tightly.


7. Close the back door of the camera. Press the shutter release button and film advance lever repeatedly until the number "1" appears in the window of the film exposure counter. You are now ready to take your photos with the film properly loaded.

Tape Is Not Working In A Sony Cfdv17







The CFD-V17 was a CD radio cassette recorder, sometimes called a cassette-corder, released by Sony in the late 1990s. This device provided programmable CD play, stereo and mono AM/FM radio, and a single cassette player that could record from CD or radio stations. Like other magnetic tape devices, the cassette player sometimes suffered from playback problems, including obstructions or incorrect settings.


Incorrect Tape Format


The Sony CFD-V17 can play only Type I, or normal, tapes. Type II, or high position, and Type IV, or metal, tapes can cause playback problems, including sound distortion. Avoid recording onto these types of tapes as they will not work correctly in this player.


Incorrect Settings


In order to play or record a tape in a multi-function device such as the Sony CFD-V17, you must set the player in the correct mode. To record, make sure the Function selector has been set to AM, FM or CD. To play a tape, set the Function lever to Tape - CD/Radio Off. In other modes, the tape player mechanism may work, but the machine won't produce any sound.


Cassette Door Problems


If you place a cassette tape in the player but the tape refuses to move after you press play or record, there may be a problem with the cassette door. Make sure that the compartment is completely closed and that there are no obstacles around the hinge. Check to see that the door has not become warped and that the cassette clicks into place when you close the door.








Disuse


If you haven't used your CFD-V17 for long periods of time, the cassette-corder may not work properly the first time you start it. After getting the player out of storage, Sony recommends setting it in playback mode and pressing "play" a few minutes before inserting a cassette tape. This allows the player to "warm up" slightly before use and increases the chances of successful playback.


Grit


Using the player in dusty areas such as construction zones, sculpture labs and outdoor play areas can cause grit and dirt to enter the tape player. Since it is a mechanical device, the player may stop working if its moving parts become clogged. Keep the CFD-V17 out of dusty areas whenever possible. If it does get dirty, vacuum all visible parts. Use a crevice tool along any seams and other openings in the machine to remove as much dirt as possible. Disassembling and reassembling the player after cleaning may allow it to work again, but dirt can break the CFD-V17's cassette-corder permanently.

Teachers must find activities for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students that will allow them to participate in the day's lesson at the same level as native English speakers in the class. This includes class projects that may be done in groups or at home.


Writing


Writing projects for ESOL students can be very similar to those used for native English speakers. Writing an autobiography, short story, or book report are excellent examples. It may be necessary to do multiple rough drafts or have the students write their pieces in steps which are later combined. This will help the instructor monitor progress with grammar and the students' ability to express ideas.


Oral


Building oral skills and confidence is essential to students learning English. Conduct a group activity rather than single out students so they don't get nervous. Have students work together to create the rules for a game which reviews lessons in social studies, math, or the like. A "Jeopardy"-style game that requires students to form grammatically correct sentences is a good example of this. Students could also write and produce a play or movie.


Creative Projects


To help build companionship in a classroom, a fun project which allows the students to take a break from learning is an excellent tool. To ensure optimum enthusiasm, the students should be allowed to take charge of the task as much as possible. Have them create a class yearbook, holiday cards or decorations, compose a letter to a famous person, perform a science experiment or take on a research project. Any suggestion from the class that would allow all students to participate equally is a good choice.


Vocabulary


Instructors of ESOL students must spend a great deal of time on vocabulary lessons. Students must learn more advanced English words while learning to translate basic words from their native tongue. Creating labels for classroom objects would be a good activity for students just starting to learning English. More advanced students may translate work together to translate a story from their native tongue to English.

Use The Sb600 Speedlight Flash







Use the SB-600 flash with your Nikon camera for brighter, clearer pictures.








The SB-600 is an external flash unit for Nikon digital SLR cameras. It mounts on the connector plate on the top of a Nikon camera to allow a brighter, faster and more powerful flash than the popup flash included on the camera body. Because the SB-600 is a professional speed light, it includes its own controls that are separate from the controls on the camera body. It also requires its own power source from four either standard or rechargeable AA batteries.


Instructions


Installing the Flash Unit


1. Remove the flash from its retail package. Turn to the left face of the flash and open both battery chamber lids. Slide the first lid to the left, then slide the second lid down.


2. Insert four AA batteries in the indicated configuration. Insert the batteries on the top and center with the "+" end up; insert the right side and bottom batteries with the "-" facing up.


3. Close both battery lids. Slide the bottom of the flash unit into the contact plate on the top of your camera until you hear an audible click. Slide the lock tab to the "lock" position. Gently move the flash in all directions to make sure that it's firmly in place.


Operating the Flash


4. Press the "On/Off" button on the flash body and slide the "On/Off" dial on the camera to "On." Remove the cap from the lens.


5. Press the "Mode" button on the flash to set the flash mode. Pressing "mode" once sets the flash to automatic mode; twice sets it to standard mode -- the flash pre-fires and waits for a flash signal; and three times sets the flash to manual mode -- the flash only fires once you fully depress the shutter button on the camera. In automatic mode, "TTLBL" is shown on the screen; standard modes shows up as "TTL"; and manual mode is shown with a single "M."


6. Press the "Flash" button on the camera body -- the arrow/lightning bolt near the lens mounting plate -- before preparing to shoot a picture. This prepares the flash for firing.


7. Slide the lock tab on the flash body to the "Unlocked" position when you're finished shooting pictures. Slide the flash away from the mounting plate. Place both your camera and flash unit in your camera bag or other storage location.

6. Keep your cellphone charging when you can, but don’t leave it plugged in all night. Keeping your phone plugged into the wall non-stop actually reduces your battery life. Once your phone indicates that it is fully charged, remove it from the charger.

Lithiumion Battery Pros & Cons

It has been a couple of decades since the commercial debut of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, and today they dominate the market as the top choice for portable power. G.N. Lewis pioneered work on these batteries as early as 1912 as a means of overcoming the inherent instability of highly reactive lithium metal. The lithium-ion battery boasts several advantages -- such as durability and eco-friendliness -- though it does have its share of disadvantages.


Lightweight


The lithium-ion battery's high energy density is perhaps its biggest edge over other rechargeables. By weight and by volume, it trumps the competition, storing as much as 150 watt-hours of energy in a single kilogram. Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery packs, on the other hand, store only 60 to 70 watt-hours per kilogram, peaking at a comparatively low 100. Lead-acid batteries fare even worse, storing 25 watt-hours per kilogram -- a mere one-sixth of the lithium-ion battery's capacity. With respect to energy density, the lithium-ion battery is unquestionably the pound-for-pound champion.


Low Self-Discharge Rate


While a NiMH or a nickel-cadmium (NiCd) battery loses as much as 20 percent of its charge in a month, a lithium-ion battery loses around 5 percent, making it the perfect choice for travelers carrying electronic equipment. Prolonged storage, however, requires that the lithium-ion battery hold at least a 40 percent charge; storing a fully depleted battery cuts down on its overall life span significantly. Storage temperatures as low as -4 degrees Fahrenheit work best for extended periods, though newer lithium-ion battery packs function well after prolonged storage at room temperature.


Expense


The cost of the average lithium-ion battery often exceeds that of NiMH and NiCd batteries of the same capacity. For safe operation, manufacturers equip lithium-ion battery packs with a protection circuit, which limits the cell's voltage during charging and discharging to a specified safe range. The complexity involved in manufacturing this circuit translates to the added cost. However, in spite of the higher initial costs, the lithium-ion battery's power output over time makes it ultimately more economical than other rechargeable and disposable batteries. The life span of a typical lithium-ion battery extends to about two to three years.


Size- and Charger-Specific


There is currently no such thing as a universal lithium-ion battery; manufacturers design them to fit specific devices. Unlike NiMH and NiCd batteries, lithium-ion batteries do not come in standard cell sizes such as AA, C and D. Also, as a complete discharge or an overcharge damages or shortens the life of a lithium-ion battery, their chargers also come with sophisticated circuitry and are therefore more expensive.

Film Developing Techniques & Chemicals For 35 Mm Camera

While digital photography has taken the chemicals and darkroom out of creating photographs, the old standard still has value. Developing film is a skill and an art because you can have direct control how the film is finished by your own hand rather than the digital computer brain. Film developing may stain your hands a bit and smell a bit, but it gives a much more hands-on approach and is an ideal teaching method for beginners.


Basics








One of the best ways to instill the love of photography into anyone is to have the person shoot with film and develop it himself. All you need is a film tank and reel for 35mm film, the proper chemicals, a dark room to load the film and a timer. Contrary to movies and TV, you can't load film in a room with a safelight. It must be loaded in total darkness, so it must be done by touch. One can learn this by practicing it many times in the light with a blank strip of film. When you can do it with your eyes closed, you're ready. Black and white film is the easiest to develop because it takes fewer chemicals, less time and has a wider range of temperature tolerance. All you need for black and white is developer, stop bath, fixer, photo-flo (to reduce spotting) and running water to wash the chemicals away.


Standard Developing


Load the film in a dark room into a "daylight" film tank. This can be plastic or stainless steel. Stainless steel is more reliable, but the reels are harder to load. In a plastic tank, you just feed the film into the outside of the reel, then walk it in using both sides of the reel in a back-and-forth motion. In a stainless-steel tank, there is a clip at the center of the reel. Bend the film slightly to get it into the clip, then wind it outward from the center. Seal the tank and take it into a room with subdued lighting. Start the timer, pour the developer into the tank and put the cap on. Rotate the tank by turning it upside down and right-side up about every 20 seconds for the duration of development. Developing Kodak T-Max 400 ISO film in Kodak T-Max developer, for example, should be developed for seven minutes at 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Then pour in the stop bath for about 30 seconds, rotating the tank. Pour out the stop bath and pour in the fixer. The longer you fix film, the more stability it will have. Fix for at least 10 minutes. Use Photo-Flo to reducing spotting, then wash the film by allowing 68-degree water run through the tank for at least 45 minutes. Hang the film to dry.


Push Developing








Beyond basic developing, you also can "push" film. This can be done to increase the image density on film you suspect is under-exposed, for example. To push the film to fix this, increase the temperature and the development time. For example, if you think the film may have been under-exposed by one stop, develop it at 70 degrees for eight minutes. If the film was over-exposed, keep the temperature at 68 degrees, but decrease the development time to five or six minutes. There are a variety of chemicals available, too, including old standbys such as Rodinal and Edwal. It often is the best practice to use chemicals specifically designed for the film you are using, but you can use other chemicals. Follow the instructions with the developer.

Change The Ringtone On A Samsung Beat Cell Phone

The Samsung Beat is a popular phone for music fans. This phone comes equipped with its own music player, video player, memory card options and more than a few instant messaging capability options. You’ll have your favorite tunes with you everywhere you go with this cell phone. Before you start downloading, though, it’s time to pick a ringtone.


Instructions








1. Open your phone and press the "Menu" soft key to get to the main menu of your phone. This is where you can find and change all the settings of your phone, including ringtones. If you ever have trouble navigating your menu, the cell phone’s user manual will have detailed instructions to help you.


2. Select the type of ringtone. You have two choices for changing your tone: You can select from the pre-programmed ringtones on your phone or download your own ringtones from applications on your cell phone that will take you to a searchable menu and allow you to listen to ringtones before you select them.


3. Find ringtones already on your Samsung Beat. Go to the main menu and select the “Fun & Apps” section, then choose “Sounds.” You’ll see some applications to download ringtones, but you want the Sounds section inside that has pre-programmed ringtones. To change the sound of your ring, go to “Ring tone” and find the “Default sound” menu to choose and listen to your cell phone’s pre-programmed rings.


4. Download new ringtones of your favorite songs. Go to the the “Fun & Apps” section and select either “Browse MegaTones” or “Browse HiFi Ringers.” These are both applications where you can find ringtones. Most ringtones in these programs cost anywhere from $1 to $5 per tone. You can also find both of these applications under "Settings," then “Sound Settings” and “Download New.”








5. Change your ringtone when you’re in the “Music Player” application, listening to a song. When you’re playing a song, go to the “Options” menu and select “Set as” to select that particular song as your ringtone.


6. Locate ringtones on your phone (and find the ringtones you downloaded) by going to the “Settings” section from your main menu and selecting “Sound Settings.” In this menu, you can also change your Flip tone, and change the sound you hear when you receive a message on your cell phone.

Send Pictures From Email To A Cell Phone

Multimedia messaging can be used to send photos to a cell phone.


Sending pictures or videos to another person's cell phone is a popular messaging format known as MMS (multimedia messaging). Besides using your own cell phone, you can also send a MMS to your recipient's mobile phone from your regular email address. Mobile carriers provide each cell phone with an email address through an SMS gateway. You can use these SMS gateways to send an MMS through email.


Instructions


1. Create a new email message. In your navigation menu, click the button to add or insert an image. Locate the picture you want to send on your computer and click "OK." This will insert your image directly inside of your email. Make sure the image is not a large file. Do not add your file as an email attachment because your recipient may not receive it on a cell phone.


2. In the "To:" field for your email, enter the SMS gateway for your recipient's cell phone. This is the mobile phone's complete phone number (10 digits) followed by an address provided by the cell phone carrier. Check the wireless provider for the correct domain. For example, Verizon's is vzwpix.com. So, to send a picture via email, you would enter "1234567890@vzwpix.com" in the "To:" portion of the email.


3. Enter a subject for your email. Some carriers reject email messages if the subject line is blank. Click "Send." Your addressee receives your picture as an MMS message.

Use Stroboscopic Flash On 580ex

A flash can often add a professional look to image.


The 580EX is a professional-level external flash unit. This device can either be attached to a camera, usually via the hot shoe, or used separately to artificially illuminate your composition. A correctly used flash will make a subject "pop" from the background. The 580EX is capable of stroboscopic shooting, which will make the camera fire multiple flashes. This will capture multiple images of a moving subject for creative effect or later study of its movement.


Instructions


1. Turn on the flash by flipping the switch on the back of the unit.


2. Press the "Mode" button until the "Multi" label is displayed in the LCD screen.


3. Rotate the selector dial to highlight the number of flashes to be outputted. This setting will blink when selected.


4. Press the center of the dial to select it. Rotate the selector dial to adjust the value, and press the center again to apply the changes.


5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to change the frequency of the flashes and the power of the output.


6. Aim the camera at the subject and press the shutter button halfway to gain focus. Press the shutter button fully to fire the flash unit.

Receive Digital Signals On An Analog Portable Tv

Analog television reception has become outdated and is being replaced by digital television signals. Homes with analog televisions will either need to replace them with digital sets or purchase a digital converter. Portable TVs are not exempt and will also need a method of conversion.


Instructions


Receive Digital Signals on an Analog Portable TV


1. Purchase a portable TV that receives both analog and digital signals. This type of portable TV contains both ATSC and NTSC tuners, which allow you to receive analog and digital signals, respectively.


2. Charge the rechargeable batteries for your portable TV before your first use. To do this, place the batteries in the battery compartment behind the TV, connect the AC adapter to the TV and then to an outlet. The LED light will turn red while the batteries are charging and then turn off when they are charged. When the batteries have been charged, disconnect the AC adapter.


3. Remove the batteries if you would rather use the AC adapter. Connect the AC adapter to the portable TV and then to an outlet. Be sure that your AC adapter is the right one for your portable TV.


4. Follow the instructions in your manual to set the language, screen format and time.


5. Turn on your portable TV and adjust your antenna. Locate the DTV/ATV button. This button switches your reception between digital and analog.


6. Slide the 'DTV/ATV' button to DTV so you can receive digital signals. Use the 'Auto' button to begin to search for digital channels and save them to memory. You can also do this in analog mode.


7. Be aware that there is no clear difference between analog and digital reception on a portable TV. The digital channels will be displayed with the same screen resolution as analog channels.

Use A Demagnetizer

There are two types of demagnetizers: one uses electricity, and the other is an actual magnet. Electrical demagnetizers consist of two basic types: a hand-held pencil point and a tabletop model. The pencil-point demagnetizers are used for small items such as tape-recording heads. Tabletop models are used for heavier items such as large-bearing assemblies or automotive parts. The actual magnet demagnetizer uses a hole down its center for magnetizing small hand tools such as screwdrivers or pliers. By following a basic procedure, you can use all three of the devices for various applications.


Instructions


Hand-Held Demagnetizer


1. Remove all electrical power from the device you are going to demagnetize. Move all tape-type media from the area, cassette tapes, floppy discs or hard drives. The magnetic field produced by the demagnetizer will destroy information on magnetic particle storage media.


2. Place a plastic or rubber cover over the tip of the hand-held demagnetizer. Most of these devices come with a protective covering. If the model you have does not, a piece of plastic tape will suffice.


3. Plug the demagnetizer into the outlet. Make sure you hold the unit well away from any metal object. You can induce an errant magnet field by close contact of the magnetic tip.


4. Touch the tip gently to the surface of the magnetic field you want to eliminate. Slowly move the tip across the surface in a side-to-side movement, following any contours.


5. Pull the tip away from the surface and unplug the demagnetizer.


Tabletop Demagnetizer


6. Place the tabletop unit in an area safely away from all electronics. These units will produce a very strong field and can magnetize items many feet from their placement.








7. Set the item you are treating on the metal surface.


8. Plug in the demagnetizer. Some units will have a rheostat mounted on the front of the device to adjust the field strength. The manufacturer's documentation will have various settings for strength levels of demagnetizing.


9. Remove the power from the demagnetizer after the allotted time according to the manufacturer's documentation.


Magnet Demagnetizer


10. Place the magnet on a nonmetal surface. A metal surface will weaken the effectiveness of the magnetizer/demagnetizer.


11. Induce a magnet field by placing the tip of the hand tool inside the center hole of the magnet.








12. Hold the tip in place for approximately 5 seconds, and the tip will be magnetized. Larger metal objects may take slightly longer.


13. Remove the magnetic field from the hand tool by rubbing the tip or surface of the tool on the outside of the magnet.

The Nikon Ittl Flash

TTL (through the lens) flash systems measure the light output via an in-camera sensor to get correct flash exposure. Companies have different versions of TTL exposure. The latest Nikon version of TTL is i-TTL (intelligent through the lens).








Camera flashes


How It Works


With i-TTL, Nikon fires a monitor preflash that helps the sensor measure the available light for exposure. With i-TTL, the flashes can be picked up by either the five-element TTL flash sensor or an RBG (red, green, blue) sensor to get the right reading.


Balanced Flash Exposure


With i-TTL, the monitor preflash reflects off of every surface in the frame of the picture the photographer has composed. The information the sensor reads is combined with output from the camera's Matrix Metering System to give a balanced flash exposure for the whole frame, both foreground and background.


Flash Units


Nikon currently makes four flash units with i-TTL flash built in: the SB-900, the SB-600, the SB-400 and the SB-R200. The R1 and R1C1 ring flash systems for close-up photography also use i-TTL via their included pair of SB-R200s.








Legacy


Nikon introduced its i-TTL system to its film SLRs in the 1980s. With the advent of digital SLRs, Nikon created the D-TTL system, which was supposed to work better with digital by flipping up the mirror but not firing the shutter. D-TTL was used from 1999 to 2003. It was phased out for a new, improved i-TTL.


i-TTL with CLS


In 2003, Nikon announced their newest DSLRs would merge i-TTL with the new Creative Lighting System (CLS). The new i-TTL measures the pre-flash inside the viewfinder before the mirror flips up. CLS allows the photographer to create three groups of remote wireless flashes with different flash exposure values that can all be triggered by one master flash.

Spot A Counterfeit Compact Flash Sandisk

There are plenty of fake goods circulating in online stores and auction sites. Computer peripherals, especially Flash memory cards, are some of the most common counterfeit goods. 1. Look at the packaging of the SanDisk Flash card. The box of a fake card will have no hologram sticker. A genuine card will have a hologram sticker.

3. Look at the SanDisk logo at back of the SanDisk Flash card. A fake card may have a faded red print, low print quality and crooked alignment of text. The SanDisk logo on a genuine card will be bright red with high-quality print.








4. Look at the bottom of the SanDisk Flash card. A counterfeit card may not have a serial number printed on the bottom. A genuine SanDisk card has a serial number printed on the bottom.

Monopod Tips







A monopod is a piece of camera equipment that is used to stabilize the camera. In this regard it is similar to a tripod, except that where a tripod has three legs the monopod has only one. This means that the monopod is easier to transport than a tripod but it is a little harder to use effectively. The key is to use other items, such as your body and nearby buildings, as additional support. This increases the monopod's effectiveness.


Bean Bag


Pack a bean bag with you when you go out shooting with your monopod. You can then wedge the bean bag between the camera and a wall, tree or other object to give it a firm base on two sides -- the monopod side and the side with the bean bag. Photographer David Jacobsen used this technique to take photographs in Washington, DC, and strongly recommends it.

A stabilizer pouch is a pouch that attaches to your waist; you can then put the other end of the monopod in it and brace it against your hipbone to add stability. This follows the same theme as Step 1-- using other implements to create additional angles of stability on the monopod, thus increasing its effectiveness without decreasing its versatility.


Your Body








There are also a variety of ways you can use your body to stabilize your monopod. While the easiest and most intuitive way to do so is to just put it right in front of you, there are better ways to stabilize the monopod with your body.


A more advanced stabilization technique is to put a foot backward and slightly turned. Then if you put the monopod directly under the arch of that foot you will have a very stable platform to move the monopod to the left and right or up and down.


Finally, if you bend a leg and put the monopod behind your knee, with an end in the ground behind you, you can stabilize your photos and use longer shutter speeds for taking pictures of things directly in front of and below you.

Connect A Sony Digital Camcorder To An Imac

Connect a Sony Digital Camcorder to an iMac


The digital camcorders developed and manufactured by the Sony corporation are used to record live video onto Mini-DV tapes or other forms of digital storage. These camcorders are able to connect to computers for the purposes of transferring the video data to the computer's hard drive. If you want to connect your digital camcorder to an iMac, use the FireWire ports on both devices.


Instructions


1. Turn your camcorder off. Connect one end of the firewire cable to the firewire port on your camcorder.


2. Connect the other end of the firewire cable to the firewire port on your iMac.


3. Turn your camcorder on. Open the camera's main menu and select the "Standard Set" option.


4. Select the "USB-Camera" option to put the camera in USB mode. Your cameras data signal should now be accepted by your iMac.


5. Open your "iMovie" program in the desktop of your iMac's operating system.


6. Select the "File" option in the iMovie program, then select the "Import from Camera" option to watch the images from your camcorder on your iMac, and import the images to the computer.

Operate A Nikon N65

The Nikon N65 uses standard 35mm film.


The Nikon N65 was a basic, consumer-level 35mm camera that used standard Nikon mount lenses. An inexpensive body, the N65 was designed to be easy to use. Because it accepted a full range of Nikon Auto Focus (AF) lenses, this inexpensive body was capable of capturing photographs of exceptional quality. Although no longer made, the N65 is still available second-hand. A second-hand N65 with a good lens is a solid camera for a film photography enthusiast.


Instructions


1. Install a lens on the camera if one isn't already attached. To install the lens, line up the red dot on the camera with the red dot on the lens and twist the lens in place until you hear a click.


2. Turn the camera power on. The power switch is around the camera's shutter release on the left side.


3. Open the back of the camera. The back releases via a lock on the left side of the camera.








4. Slip the film canister in the camera so the tongue faces down.


5. Pull the film leader across the back of the camera until the end is even with the red leader mark near the take-up reel on the right side of the camera. Make sure the film is flat as you pull it across.


6. Close the back of the camera. The film automatically will advance.


7. Set the exposure mode dial to "P" to engage automatic multiprogram mode. This mode will select the best shutter speed and aperture for the conditions the camera senses.








8. Remove the lens cap from the lens.


9. Point the camera at the photographic subject and press halfway down on the shutter release. This will engage the camera's auto focus.


10. Once the image is in focus and composed to your satisfaction, press the shutter release to take the picture. The film automatically will advance to the next frame

Tell When A Motorola Bluetooth Headset Is Charged







The Motorola Bluetooth headset does not display how much battery power is remaining on the rechargeable coin-cell battery. This can make it difficult to gauge how much talk time is remaining and when to charge the battery. However, the unit does feature a charging indicator light, which illuminates when the battery is charging and turns off as soon as the battery is fully charged. This allows you to know that the battery is fully charged and to remove it from the charger.


Instructions


1. Insert the Motorola charger into the charging port on the side of the Bluetooth headset.


2. Connect the opposite end of the charger into an electrical outlet. Once connected, the indicator light is illuminated, indicating the battery is charging.








3. Check the indicator light every 30 to 60 minutes. Once the light turns off, the headset is fully charged. A fully discharged battery will take about two hours to recharge.


4. Recharge the battery immediately when you hear five high-tone beeps coming from the Motorola Bluetooth headset. This indicates the battery is running low.

Canon digital camera users must download drivers to their computers in order to upload pictures, edit images and perform other tasks across the camera-computer interface. The Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk contains drivers and other software used by Canon digital cameras to communicate with a computer. Version 30.2 of the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk contains both PhotoStitch 3.1, a photo editing utility to create panoramic shots, and EOS Utility 1.1, for transferring images from a camera to the computer. Version 30.2 of the solution disk also contains ImageBrowser 5.8 for Mac OS users or ZoomBrowser 5.8 and Camera TWAIN Driver 6.7 for Windows users.


Downloading Solution Disk


A copy of the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk is included in the packaging of every Canon model sold in stores. Version 30.2 of the Canon Solution Disk is widely available for download on the Internet as a torrent. To download the solution disk from the torrent, download a torrent program, like BitTorrent or Deluge, as well as the solution disk torrent. Run the solution disk torrent through your torrent program to download the files to a computer.


Installation


Run the executable file that comes with the Canon Solution Disk torrent once the torrent finishes downloading. This program will install the different applications included on the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk Version 30.2. Troubleshooting

Improperly connecting the camera to the computer or attempting to install drivers without a fully charged camera battery will also prevent installation. Connecting the camera before installing drivers may also impede installation; uninstall the drivers, disconnect the camera and then proceed to install drivers before connecting the Canon digital camera.

Transfer Pictures To A Memory Stick

It's easy to transfer pictures to a memory stick.


One of the benefits of digital photography is the ability to transfer photographs from your camera to your computer. What many people may not realize is that the process can be reversed. If you need to transfer your pictures back to the memory stick, be it for printing at a print shop or just to save space on your computer, the process is quite simple.


Instructions


1. Insert the memory stick into your camera and connect it to your PC via the USB cable that came with your camera. You can also purchase one at most electronics stores, just be sure it is compatible with your camera. Turn the camera on so the computer recognizes it.


2. Right-click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. Double-click the folder where your pictures are located. For example, "My Pictures." Open the folder so your pictures are displayed.


3. Click the "Folders" icon at the top of the screen. This will display a list of folders and drives in the left pane of the window. Scroll down to locate a drive where your camera is located. Often this will be the "F:" drive.


4. Highlight the pictures that you wish to move onto the memory stick. You can select multiple pictures by holding down the "Ctrl" key as you click each one. If you want to move all the pictures, click "Edit," then "Select All."


5. Drag the photos in the right pane by clicking and holding the mouse. Move them over the drive where your camera is located and release the mouse button. A dialog box will pop up showing your progress. Once completed, open the memory stick drive. You will see that your photos have been transferred successfully.

Test An Ac/Dc Adapter

AC/DC adapters power today's electronics.


AC/DC adapters convert alternating current, or AC, voltage to direct current, or DC, voltage. These adapters are also known as power supplies. Electronics manufacturers use AC/DC adapters in many types of consumer electronic devices. For example, a laptop computer uses an AC/DC "black box" to charge the computer so you can operate it from its battery reserves. Adapter sizes vary, but all adapters perform the same function. Troubleshoot a "dead" electronics device by first testing the AC/DC adapter's function.








Instructions


1. Unplug the AC/DC adapter from the wall outlet. Unplug the adapter from the electronic device.


2. Record the correct output voltage for a properly working AC/DC adapter. Locate this information on the adapter's label. Look for language such as "Output Voltage VDC."


3. Turn the multimeter's range selector knob to "VDC." Plug the black lead into the jack marked "COM." Plug the red lead into the jack marked "V."








4. Insert the red voltage probe into the center of the adapter's output jack.


5. Plug the adapter's power cord into the wall outlet. Place the black voltage probe onto the outside ring of the adapter's output jack. Do not allow the two voltage probes to touch each other.


6. Read the voltage on the multimeter's display. The AC/DC adapter is faulty if you see a lower voltage than the label specifies. Move and bend the cable near the output jack from side to side. The cable is damaged if the voltage reading fluctuates.
